The Project
The BES team has been contracted to carry out a survey of a grade II historical building in West London for the production of a 3D as-built model. The project will provide an accurate representation of the building’s current condition and allow for future changes and additions to be accurately reflected in the model. The building is composed of a ground, first and second floor with two accesses on main roads. Included in the scope of work there also was a drainage survey that was carried out by a specialized company under BES supervision.
The BES team use laser scanning to generate high-quality, accurate 3D models which can be used for any number of purposes such as:
- Providing an accurate representation of the building’s current condition
- Planning future changes or additions to the building
- Inspecting work carried out on site
The Challenge
The 3D model was created in Autodesk Revit software and then exported in IFC format so it could be shared and used with any BIM software. The main goal was to create an exact replica of the building, including its most minute details
This required a different approach from the BES team either onsite and in post processing to make sure every detail was captured by the terrestrial scanner and clearly understandable for the post processing.
Our Solution
We captured a greater level of detail to be able to provide an accurate 3D Revit As-Built model.
This means that we were able to create a more detailed and accurate 3D model of the building, including all the modifications that have been made over time, which is not possible with a traditional survey. This is a key benefit that allows designers and planners to make better decisions based on the existing data and information. The 3D Revit As-Built model can be used for many purposes from as a reference for design, to as a tool for training, or as a document that can be shared with stakeholders.
The 3D Revit As-Built model provides a level of detail that is not possible with the traditional 2D drawings. BES team was able to provide an accurate and complete representation of the building’s construction for future use. The 3D Revit As-Built model allowed designer to instantly start working by modifying adding or removing elements from the model
